The story
At Cami·Vell in Alzira, the motto “Tradición & Evolución” is not a slogan but a daily practice. The López brothers, Toni and Iván, run a kitchen that honours the Valencian larder while letting a quiet, refined contemporary cuisine emerge. Their work earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand – a recognition of good quality, good value cooking.
The story begins in 1984, when Antonio López opened a small bocatería-sandwichería on Calle Colón. Over the years, it grew into a restaurant anchored in product and tradition. Antonio’s sons, Toni and Iván, helped as children in the old Tasca Camivell and later studied cooking. They trained in acclaimed kitchens – Café de París in Málaga, El Ángel Azul and Ca Sento in Valencia, Las Rejas in Ciudad Real, Es Molí de Foc in Menorca – before returning to Alzira. Their return brought a new vision and a complete renovation, turning the family venture into the restaurant it is today.
The dining room is a deliberate space: typical Valencian ceramics, hand-painted ceilings, and an open kitchen where guests can watch the cooks at work. The brothers split responsibilities – Toni in the dining room, Iván in the kitchen – and the result is a place where the client feels at home. The cooking relies on proximity product, sourced from producers they know personally. Three tasting menus (Xúquer at €42, Casella at €58, and Murta at €80) offer a way to explore the kitchen’s range, from traditional foundations to subtle contemporary touches. The restaurant also sells gift cards and menu vouchers, a thoughtful option for those who want to share the experience.
Beyond the Bib Gourmand, Cami·Vell has been named the best restaurant for coeliacs in Spain by the Guía Repsol, and has received the city of Alzira’s gold insignia. The team also runs their kitchen on solar energy, a practical commitment to the same local responsibility that drives their sourcing.
