The story
On Carrer de l'Avenir in Barcelona, Avenir has built a reputation for accessible, high-quality cooking that earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, held since 2021. The recognition, as the restaurant notes, affirms “quality product, mastery of technique, and a balance of flavor and personality on the plate at accessible prices.”
The restaurant is the project of Roger Viñas and Chesco Salrach. Viñas, the head chef, describes cooking as his way of expressing emotions, while Salrach, the head of service, acts as a “storyteller and great ambassador” for the dining room. Their shared goal was to create a place where quality food is available to everyone.
The menu is built around the idea of “popular cuisine full of emotions to share.” Dishes are designed for sharing, with the recommendation to choose three or four plates per person. The kitchen draws from Catalan tradition and the simple, slow-cooked flavors of xup-xup cooking, but with a contemporary touch. The team works closely with local producers to source seasonal ingredients.
The wine list features over one hundred references, selected to complement the food. The service team provides detailed explanations of each dish, aiming to make the experience feel both special and welcoming.
Avenir has also been included in the Top 100 of The Fork users' favorite restaurants in Barcelona, reflecting its consistent appeal. The setting is simple, allowing the cooking to take center stage.
