The story

Lasarte Barcelona – Three Michelin Stars by Berasategui & Casagrande

A pursuit of excellence since 2006

Lasarte opened in 2006 as more than a restaurant: a quest for elegance in both kitchen and service. Guided by the culinary vision of Martín Berasategui, the team has held three Michelin stars since 2017, establishing Lasarte as one of Barcelona’s most prestigious dining destinations.

The restaurant is housed within the Monument 5* GL Hotel on Passeig de Gràcia, a fitting setting for the refined experience that unfolds inside.

The team behind the stars

Head chef Paolo Casagrande brings what the restaurant calls “emotional elegance and serenity.” Born near Treviso, Italy, he trained at the Alfredo Beltrame Hospitality School and worked in leading kitchens in Milan, London, and Paris before joining Berasategui’s team in 2003. He took the helm at Lasarte in 2012; four years later, the restaurant earned its third Michelin star.

Joan Carles Ibáñez directs the dining room and wine program. With over two decades at Racó de Can Fabes, he brings a deep knowledge of harmony. The wine cellar spans more than 800 references from Spain and beyond. Pastry chef Xavi Donnay, named Best Pastry Chef in the World at The Best Chef Awards in 2020, creates desserts rooted in tradition but modern in execution.

A cuisine of product and place

The kitchen’s compass is seasonal ingredients. “We honour their natural cycles to create dishes that are both thoughtfully crafted and elegantly presented,” the website states. The cuisine draws from the dialogue between the Mediterranean and Cantabrian seas, and the interplay of Catalonia, the Basque Country, and Italy.

The tasting menu (345€) and lunch menu (225€) showcase dishes such as squid tartare with green apple juice and licorice, carbonara with langoustine and Iberian jowl, and cured sea bass with smoked kohlrabi. An exclusive Il Milione experience (490€) takes inspiration from Marco Polo’s travels, offering a journey through the chefs’ creative territories.

The experience

The dining room is defined by elegance. Service is precise and warm, led by Ibáñez and maître Antonio Coelho. The restaurant asks for a formal dress code – long trousers and closed-toe shoes required – and does not accommodate children under seven, reflecting the focus on an uninterrupted gastronomic experience.

Lasarte’s greatest reward, they say, is “the delighted smiles of our guests.” Those smiles, along with the three stars, speak to a place where every detail is considered.
