The story
In Benavente, El Ermitaño occupies a centuries-old manor that once belonged to the Marquises of the Salados. The property, known as "Huerta de los Salados," lies just outside the city walls and includes a small hermitage dating from 1773. It is within these thick stone walls that the restaurant crafts its contemporary cuisine, a fact recognized with a Michelin star for high-quality cooking.
The kitchen is led by brothers Pedro and Óscar. Pedro, the eldest, was not immediately drawn to cooking but was slowly seduced by it, his inquisitive palate eventually pulling him in completely. Óscar began his culinary journey at fifteen, learning the foundations of good gastronomy at a hospitality school in Madrid before fully immersing himself in the kitchen of El Ermitaño. Their shared passion for the land and its products is central to their work.
The kitchen at El Ermitaño is driven by a deep respect for the magnificent products of the Zamora region. The brothers have had the opportunity to share this passion on a national stage, having participated as advisors on the television program MasterChef, where they guided contestants and showcased the ingredients they are proud to use daily. The restaurant also features a notable wine list, a dedicated bodega, and a shop where guests can take a piece of the experience home.
Beyond its fine dining, El Ermitaño is a versatile venue. Its various "rincones" (corners) host everything from weddings and family celebrations to corporate banquets and private parties. With options for outdoor seating, catering, and a private chef, it is a place equally suited for a special occasion or a quiet, sophisticated lunch, all while maintaining the welcoming atmosphere of a family-run estate.
