The story
Deep in the woodlands of Amorebieta, just outside Bilbao, La Revelía occupies a carefully rebuilt 17th-century farmhouse called Azkarraga. The restaurant’s contemporary architecture—minimalist, with clean lines—blends into its forest surroundings, a deliberate design choice that sets the stage for the dining experience within.
Chef Fernando González and his team describe their cooking as “creative signature cuisine, sustainable and inspired by the essence of traditional cuisine.” The guiding principle is to cook traditional dishes in a different way, working with the highest quality raw materials from nearby producers. Seasonality dictates the menu; dishes change as new products appear, keeping the offering dynamic and rooted in the local landscape.
Guests can choose from the à la carte or a tasting menu. The kitchen’s focus is on elevated, potent flavors, with each plate offering a succession of sensations that shift with the market. The restaurant’s commitment to this approach has earned it a Michelin star, a recognition of its high-quality cooking and the precision of its contemporary cuisine.
The experience at La Revelía is one of place and purpose. The restored farmhouse, with its warm, welcoming interior, feels both modern and anchored in Basque tradition. It is, as the team says, a place to feel at home.
