The story
Casa Rubio is a cornerstone of traditional Andalusian cuisine in Córdoba, a restaurant whose story begins in 1920. Originally known as ‘La Taberna del Cojo de San Nicolás’, it was renamed in 1932 after being acquired by José María Jiménez Márquez, a local figure nicknamed ‘El Rubio’. In 2001, the Cabezas Romero group began a new chapter, carefully renovating the establishment while preserving its historical structure. Today, it stands as one of the city's most venerable dining rooms, earning a Michelin Recommended award for its consistent quality.
Located on Calle Puerta de Almodóvar in the heart of the Judería, the restaurant occupies the very house where the famed Cordoban intellectual and illustrator Antonio Jaén Morente was born. The atmosphere is rooted in its past as a taberna, yet refined. A standout feature is the rooftop terrace, considered one of the most welcoming in the Judería, offering views of the 14th-century Puerta de Almodóvar, the historic gateway to the Jewish Quarter.
The kitchen is led by executive chef Juan Pedro Secaduras, who works alongside managers Miguel Cabezas and Lola Carmona. Their philosophy, as they describe it, is one of “incansable investigación” — tireless research to find the most singular ingredients. The menu is a celebration of Andalusian cuisine, focused on product and quality. It changes with the seasons, drawing from the best local produce: fresh fish and seafood treated with respect for the product, vegetables from the finest orchards, and top-quality meats. The result is a menu that balances the spirit of quality tapeo with more substantial dishes, all rooted in the traditions of Andalusia. Casa Rubio is also proud to have received a Solede Repsol award.
The team, with over 20 years of experience, brings a vanguard spirit to this historic setting, ensuring that Casa Rubio remains a definitive reference for traditional Andalusian cuisine in Córdoba.
