The story
In the heart of Córdoba’s old town, La Taberna de Almodóvar has been a fixture of honest, traditional Mediterranean cooking for years. Whitewashed walls and brick lintels set the scene across several dining rooms, decorated with a simplicity that leans into the tavern’s mesón character. After a recent renovation, the space feels more open, yet the warmth remains.
The kitchen is rooted in classic Cordoban cuisine, with a steady hand on slow-braised dishes. Stews take centre stage here, with meats rendered tender and sauces reduced to deep, concentrated flavour. The menu nods to regional staples, with small innovations that never obscure the original tastes. As the team puts it, they aim not to impress with modernity, but to do things properly.
That approach has earned the restaurant a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide for 15 consecutive years, a recognition of good quality, good value cooking. It is also a member of the prestigious Club de Oro de la Mesa Andaluza, an association of 25 top restaurants across Andalusia.
The atmosphere is deliberately unpretentious. The staff greet diners with genuine warmth, and the goal is simple: that guests leave happy, with a good taste in their mouths. There’s no attempt to dazzle—just a sincere desire to please, plate after plate.
