The story
Arotxa sits in the small village of Legasa, in the northern part of Navarre, close to the Señorío de Bertiz Natural Park and the Bidasoa Greenway. The restaurant’s stone walls and the surrounding forests of chestnut, oak, and beech set a calm, natural tone. With space for seventy guests, the dining room is intimate and welcoming, designed for both quiet meals and larger gatherings.
Arotxa has built its reputation as one of Spain’s great beef steak grills. The star is the chuletón, a bone-in rib steak from aged beef sourced from the Hermanos Indart ranch. The meat is handled over the fire with a singular technique that the restaurant describes as "catalogued as out of the ordinary." The result is a deeply flavoured, expertly charred steak that has earned Arotxa a loyal following.
Chef Luismi Lacar leads the kitchen. The website calls him "passionate and expert in meat," and he works the coals with a master’s touch. His focus on exceptional raw ingredients and precise grilling sets the standard here. The Michelin Guide recognised this commitment with a Bib Gourmand, a nod to good quality, good value cooking – a fitting distinction for a restaurant that lets the ingredient speak.
Beyond the grill, Arotxa specialises in private events, banquets, and business gatherings. The team aims for "full customer satisfaction" and promises results that exceed expectations. The restaurant also offers a carefully chosen wine list, artisanal pastries, and outdoor seating for warmer days. It is open for lunch Monday through Sunday, with dinner service on Saturdays (closed Tuesday and Wednesday).
