The story

Casa Manolo in Gandia: Michelin-Recommended Seafood and Tradition on the Coast

A Return to Roots

Casa Manolo sits on the Paseo Marítimo in Daimús, just outside Gandia, looking out over the Mediterranean. The restaurant has gone back to what it calls “vuelta al origen” – a return to its origins as a family-run spot serving traditional cuisine and great classics. The Alonso-Fominaya family, who founded the original chiringuito, have reclaimed the kitchen’s soul. Dishes like “Callos, como los hacía mi madre” (tripe as my mother made them), the classic caramelised torrija, and “Arroz con bogavante” (lobster rice) now anchor the menu, alongside a daily-changing selection of market-driven seafood.

The Hand of Manuel Alonso

Chef Manuel Alonso is the driving force. His cooking draws directly from the sea and the surrounding landscape, using his roots to strip ingredients down to their essence. “I need to see the soul of the product, understand it, and from there create,” he explains. An unconditional lover of seasonal produce, his menu shifts with the market. He pushes flavour to its limit, without masks or disguises. The result is a cuisine that feels both honest and refined – a quality that earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended award.

A Dining Experience by the Sea

The atmosphere is welcoming, with outdoor seating that lets you enjoy the sea breeze. Inside, the dining room is air-conditioned and wheelchair-accessible. Casa Manolo offers several tasting menus: the “Menú Llotja y Terreta” (65–69 €) includes four snacks, two seafood courses, a rice or fideuà, and dessert; the “Menú Calma” (49.80–59.80 €) offers three snacks, three half-rations, a main (rice, fish or meat), and dessert; longer options like “Menú Miradas” and “Menú Escapada” extend the experience with more courses. All include organic bread and olive oil. The wine cellar, praised by Michelin as one of the most important in Spain, houses a curated selection of classic, modern, and international labels. Casa Manolo is open daily for lunch and dinner, closed Wednesdays except holidays.
