The story
In the heart of Girona, inside the city’s emblematic Casino building, Divinum is the realisation of a dream Joan and Laura began more than twenty years ago. What started as a tiny wine bar – dark walls, stacks of boxes, ceilings so low they almost brushed the law – serving exquisite cheeses alongside glasses of wine, gradually grew into something more. As the cheeses were joined by other dishes, the name of that small paradise became clear: Divinum.
Eleven years later, with countless glasses poured and a loyal clientele behind them, the team launched this project with the same spirit and enthusiasm. Today, Divinum is a Michelin One Star restaurant, recognised for high-quality cooking that is deeply rooted in the land. The kitchen’s philosophy is one of passion for the product and respect for the earth, expressed through a contemporary Catalan cuisine that changes with each season.
The restaurant offers two main tasting paths. The Essencia menu, served to the whole table, unfolds across a series of small courses – from a crayfish buñuelo and a Gilda to river trout, mushroom essence, and a butter brioche, followed by creations like leek with hazelnuts and caviar, pheasant ravioli in escabeche, and a crispy suckling pig with apple textures. Sweet endings include a lemon flower with thyme and a flan with caramel and rosemary. For a more accessible daily pleasure, the Petit menu presents nine elaborations, available Monday to Friday at lunch.
Beyond the kitchen, Divinum is defined by its union of meticulous gastronomy, a spectacular dining room experience, and a carefully selected wine cellar. This commitment to the complete experience has earned the team recognition including the award for Best Service in the Dining Room 2024 from the Catalan Association of Sommeliers. In the words of Joan Roca, who named it his preferred restaurant in Girona: “The restaurant of choice for Joan Roca to eat in Girona.”
