Maràngels, Girona – Catalan Cuisine in a 17th-Century Masia

The Setting

Maràngels occupies a restored 17th-century Catalan masia (farmhouse) at Can Quelot, surrounded by gardens and countryside just three minutes from Girona. The property offers several welcoming dining rooms and a terrace set among the greenery, making it a calm retreat for lunch, dinner, or special gatherings. The balance between the natural setting, the cooking, and the attention to detail creates a genuinely comfortable atmosphere.

The Cuisine

The kitchen follows a philosophy of market-driven, seasonal cooking. The menu is rewritten four times a year to reflect what is best from local producers. This is traditional Catalan cuisine — sincere, creative, and rooted in proximity. Maràngels has been recognised with a Sol Repsol award in the 2026 edition and is recommended by the Michelin Guide, a reflection of its consistent quality and impeccable service.

What to Eat

From the a la carte menu, starters include Andalusian-style squid, anchovies from l'Escala, and a coca with cod brandade. Among the traditional dishes of the house, the fish ravioli with seafood cream and prawns, the creamy prawn rice, and the “traditional cannelloni like Grandma Maria used to make them” stand out. Main courses range from cod kokotxes in pil-pil on mashed potatoes to a hand-cut steak tartare, boneless roast lamb shoulder, and beef cheek with mushrooms. Desserts include apple spheres filled with cream, a chocolate and tangerine mousse, and an iced sponge cake with hot chocolate and almonds.

For a full experience, the Vall del Llemena tasting menu (€70) offers a progression from foie gras with Armagnac through pumpkin gnocchi, mushroom and egg, rice with shrimps, fish of the day, lamb shoulder, and a chocolate dessert. Group menus (minimum six people) are also available, with options starting at €50 per person.

Wine and Atmosphere

The wine list is carefully selected, with a focus on DOs from the region. The restaurant can accommodate large groups and private parties, and there is outdoor seating for warmer months. Whether for a quiet weekday lunch or a festive evening, Maràngels delivers the essence of Catalan cooking in a setting that feels both historic and genuinely welcoming.
