The story
In the heart of Jaén, KA-ORŪ SUSHIBAR & COCKTAIL brings the essence of Japan to Andalusia. The name itself tells the story: "KAZOKU" meaning family, and "ORIBŪ" meaning olive tree, a nod to the millenary olive groves that surround the city. This is a restaurant built on the roots of its founders, Rubén and María José, who combine Japanese culinary tradition with the best local products.
The experience begins at the live sushi counter, where the sushiman prepares each piece before your eyes. The menu is a showcase of traditional Japanese techniques, elevated by the use of local ingredients like Jaén's own Extra Virgin Olive Oil (AOVE). From a wide variety of sushi and specialty nigiris to crispy gyozas and oysters, the a la carte selection is designed to be shared and savored.
For a deeper dive, KA-ORŪ offers two tasting menus. The Menú KAZOKU is a 10-course journey through the chefs' family roots, highlighting seasonal products. The Menú KA-ORŪ is an omakase experience available only at the bar, featuring 15 pieces of Edomae-style nigiri, temaki, and dessert. Each menu can be paired with a curated selection of wines, premium sakes, or the restaurant's signature Japanese cocktails, which are unique in the province and feature ingredients like shiso and yuzu.
The recognition from the Michelin Guide as a Recommended restaurant speaks to the precision and care in every dish. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, making it a place for a quiet dinner or a special celebration. Whether you choose the counter or a table, the focus is on the food and the craft.
KA-ORŪ also offers sushi boxes and artisan cheesecakes for takeaway, and a gift card experience for the full tasting menu with pairing. It is a genuine expression of Japanese cuisine in Jaén, where tradition and locality meet without pretension.
