The story
In the small town of Vallromanes, at the foot of the Serralada Litoral and bordering the Maresme region, Can Poal occupies a restored family farmhouse just beside the church. It opened its doors in October 2009 with a clear intention: to share the cooking of chef Ferran Balet.
Balet’s professional trajectory is rooted in the philosophy of Catalan cuisine, shaped by time spent with acclaimed figures such as Santi Santamaria at the legendary Racó de Can Fabes, Fermí Puig at Drolma, Mercè Navarro at Roig Robí, and Mey Hoffmann. That foundation is evident in every plate.
The kitchen’s essence is simple: roots, patience, and product. Respect for the ingredient drives everything—seasonality, proximity, and trusted suppliers. The team describes their offering as a clear, direct culinary experience, without unnecessary frills. A carefully curated wine list, full of detail and subtlety, is designed to accompany the meal.
This straightforward, high-quality approach has not gone unnoticed. Can Poal has held a Bib Gourmand distinction from the Michelin Guide since 2011, a recognition that rewards restaurants offering excellent food at a moderate price. It is a fitting nod to a kitchen that lets the Catalan product speak for itself, in a setting that feels both welcoming and considered.
