The story

Casa Fermín Oviedo: A Century of Asturian Cuisine with Michelin Distinction

A Legacy Since 1924

Casa Fermín opened its doors in 1924 in Oviedo’s Fontán market district. Over a century later, the restaurant remains firmly in the hands of the founding family, now led by the fourth generation. The Martínez-Gil family — Luis Alberto Martínez, María Jesús Gil, and their son Guillermo — carry forward the passion and craft of the original founder, Fermín García. Their story is one of quiet consistency: a move to a larger space in 1943, another relocation to the elegant Calle San Francisco in 1983, and a landmark achievement in 1974 when Casa Fermín earned the first Michelin star ever awarded in Asturias. Today, the restaurant continues to hold a place in the Michelin guide as a Recommended restaurant, a testament to its enduring quality.

Tradition and Vanguard in Every Dish

The kitchen at Casa Fermín is rooted in Asturian cuisine, built on seasonal, high-quality ingredients. The menu balances classic Asturian proposals with a light, contemporary touch — “adapted to the time we live in,” as the family puts it. Each season brings a new offering, inviting diners to discover familiar flavours presented with care and precision. While the restaurant does not publish a fixed list of signature dishes, the philosophy is clear: respect for tradition, willingness to evolve, and an unwavering focus on the produce of the region.

The Family Behind the Kitchen

The restaurant describes itself as “four generations loving the kitchen,” and that warmth extends to the dining room. The atmosphere is tranquil and welcoming, with spacious, elegant interiors and private salons for events. There is no pretension here — just a genuine desire to make every guest feel at home. Casa Fermín also offers a personalised catering service, bringing its stamp of quality to private celebrations outside the restaurant.

A Temple of Asturian Gastronomy in Oviedo

Located on Calle San Francisco, in the heart of Oviedo, Casa Fermín is more than a restaurant; it is a local institution. The restaurant’s own words capture it best: “Un templo de la gastronomía asturiana en el corazón de Oviedo.” For anyone seeking a deep, authentic taste of Asturian cuisine, this is the place.
