The story
Sa Jambina takes its name from the jambina, a traditional reed fishing tool that works in harmony with the marine environment. It is a fitting symbol for this restaurant in Calella de Palafrugell, where respect for the Mediterranean and its bounty defines every dish. What began in 1995 as a family venture has grown into a reference point for seafood on the Costa Brava, earning a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026.
The restaurant was founded by Manel Lozano and Consuelo Cardeña. Today, their children Xavi and Adrià Lozano, together with Mireia Pérez and Laura Figueras, carry the project forward. Xavi and Mireia lead the kitchen, while Adrià and Laura oversee the dining room, ensuring that the balance between technique, product, and hospitality remains intact. The result is a place where the warmth of a family-run restaurant meets the precision of a kitchen that knows its ingredients intimately.
The cuisine at Sa Jambina is best described as honest, elegant, and without artifice. It is a Mediterranean cuisine built on proximity and seasonality, drawing from the waters and fields of the Costa Brava and Empordà. The kitchen works with local suppliers, selecting fish from the daily catch at the port and vegetables at their peak. This approach yields a dynamic menu that changes with the seasons. Signature dishes include tartar of red prawn, cod tripe with spiny sea cucumbers, and the house speciality: whole fish baked in the oven to share. Each plate speaks of the territory, marrying traditional Catalan flavours with a contemporary sensibility.
Dining at Sa Jambina is an invitation to slow down. The atmosphere is carefully considered, with outdoor seating available for those who want to feel the coastal breeze. The dining room is air-conditioned, and private parties can be accommodated. The service is unhurried, designed for guests to appreciate the nuance of each course. It is a place where the rhythm of the meal mirrors the unhurried pace of the Costa Brava itself—a restaurant worth seeking out for its product, its calm, and its deep connection to the Mediterranean.
