The story
At first glance, Parada de la Reina looks like the café of the Plasencia bus station. Step inside, and you discover Martina Bistró: a place where the team’s passion for travel and flavour turns a transit stop into a destination. Since 2012, this spot has evolved from a simple station café into a gastronomic reference in the region, earning a Michelin Recommended distinction for its modern cuisine.
The kitchen’s philosophy is “cocina viajera” – a free, borderless style that draws inspiration from around the world while respecting local Extremaduran ingredients. Surprise is the main ingredient. The menu changes to reflect this global outlook, offering dishes meant to be shared, enjoyed, and remembered. Whether you stop for a quick bite or a full meal, the aim is to make every plate a small journey.
A young, restless crew runs the show, driven by enthusiasm and a relentless pursuit of quality. They prioritise product excellence, innovation, and human warmth. This dedication has won them local tapas awards over the years – from the healthiest tapa to the most innovative – and now the recognition of the Michelin guide.
Parada de la Reina doesn’t just serve food; it creates experiences. The Jamonada Experience, held on summer evenings, features award-winning ham cutter Felipe Gil slicing Ibérico ham live on the terrace. The Conecta Wine Klub organises tasting dinners with guest wineries, pairing curated wines with a degustation menu. Both events embody the team’s belief in sharing good food and good company.
Everything here is done “for the love of Martina” – a tribute to the owners’ grandmother, a lifelong traveller and dreamer who inspires their approach to life and gastronomy. That spirit of curiosity, generosity, and joy runs through every dish, every event, and every welcome given to travellers and locals alike.
