The story
In San Vicente de la Barquera, Las Redes has been a fixture since 1994, when a family with roots in gastronomy dating back to 1981 opened a restaurant alongside the old pier. Today, Susana leads the kitchen, turning out dishes with what the restaurant describes as “fine culinary intuition.” Her rice dishes are a specialty, but regulars also seek out seasonal offerings like sorropotún—a Cantabrian tuna stew—along with cod tripe, Tudela vegetables, or baby squid from Guadañeta. The desserts are made daily in-house.
On the seafood side, Jose selects and prepares the best fish and shellfish from nearby ports such as San Vicente itself, Bustio, and Llanes. The commitment to freshness is total: wild turbot, Saint Martin fish, sea bream, kingfish—all served perfectly timed. The dining room is overseen by Marian as head of service, while Pedro acts as sommelier with a wine list of more than 250 references.
Las Redes appears in the Michelin guide as a Recommended restaurant, as well as in Repsol, Conde Nast Traveler, and La Selección del Gourmet. The restaurant’s dedication to quality seafood and locally sourced ingredients has earned it consistent praise. With outdoor seating and a welcoming atmosphere, it is a solid choice for anyone seeking authentic seafood in Cantabria.
