The story
Cantina La Estación, in the heart of Úbeda, is a place where creative modern cuisine meets a passion for wine. Chef and owner Montserrat De la Torre has been at the helm since the restaurant opened around 2005, and her kitchen is driven by both product and imagination. The Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026 recognises the consistent quality and value that define the experience here.
The restaurant’s name nods to its former life as a station, and the dining spaces include a bar area, a terrace for outdoor seating, and a “vagón-restaurante” – a converted train car that adds a touch of nostalgia. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, with a focus on attentive service. The team includes sommelier Antonio José Cristofani Marín, who was named one of the three best sommeliers in Andalusia, and the bodega is a sacred corner where an interesting wine list awaits.
Dishes are described as creative, rooted in the essence of the ingredients. The restaurant offers a tasting menu – a journey through the flavours of Cantina La Estación, often with wine pairings. Seasonal events, such as the Fiesta de la Floración, bring together live music, paella, and plenty of wine, reflecting the convivial spirit of the place.
Montserrat De la Torre’s work has earned her recognition beyond the Bib Gourmand, including a Creative Woman award from Diario Ideal and a Jaén Mujer prize. Cantina La Estación remains a destination for those seeking modern cuisine with character, in a setting that celebrates both the past and the present of Úbeda.
