The story
In the heart of the Matarraña comarca, at 627 metres of altitude, lies the village of Ráfales, declared a historic-artistic site in 1984. On its main square, Plaza Mayor, a seemingly modest 17th-century house hides a small hotel and restaurant that its owners, Clara and Jose, built from the ground up.
In October 2002, they bought the property – then in a worrying state of abandonment – with the dream of creating a small establishment that would reflect the quality, care and service they had always valued as frequent travellers. After a long and complex rehabilitation, La Alquería opened its doors, offering a personal vision of hospitality.
The restaurant is led by Clara, who invites guests to enjoy the gastronomy of the Matarraña. The cuisine is Contemporary, rooted in the land and produce of the region. The quiet, personal atmosphere of the dining room mirrors the owners’ philosophy: unpretentious, warm, and attentive.
The contact page notes that the à la carte service lasts about three hours, and the restaurant is open from Friday to Sunday, with lunch at 14:00 and dinner at 21:00. Reservations are confirmed by phone.
La Alquería’s cooking has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, a recognition of good quality, good value cooking. It is a fitting nod to the simple, honest approach that Clara and Jose have cultivated: a small house in a small village, offering a contemporary experience that feels both personal and deeply connected to its surroundings.
