The story
El Chiringuito first opened its doors in 1986, founded by Antonio Merejildo in the peaceful mountain village of Sedella, Málaga. For nearly four decades, the restaurant has remained in the family – a living legacy now carried by Víctor Hierrezuelo, Antonio’s grandson and the third generation to take charge.
Víctor trained in some of Spain’s most celebrated kitchens: Arzak ⭐⭐⭐ in San Sebastián, Bardal ⭐⭐ in Ronda, and Damajuana ⭐ in Jaén. After that rigorous formation, he returned home to make El Chiringuito his first personal project, continuing his grandfather’s good work while adding his own refined touch.
The cooking here is rooted in Andalusian tradition, elevated by precise technique and a relentless focus on the finest ingredients. Dishes are built on local produce and straightforward preparations that let quality speak. The restaurant also maintains a small wine cellar of about one hundred references, with special attention to regional wines from Málaga and the surrounding area – a thoughtful selection that complements the food naturally.
El Chiringuito’s honest, flavourful cooking earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, a mark of “good quality, good value cooking” that aligns perfectly with the restaurant’s philosophy: generous, approachable, and deeply tied to its place. In the hands of Víctor Hierrezuelo, this family-run spot continues to serve exactly the kind of Andalusian food that makes a meal feel like a return home.
