The story
Restaurant Brücke sits directly on the banks of the Aare in Niedergösgen, between Aarau and Olten. The Gfeller family has run this house since 1908 – now in its fourth generation, with hosts Markus and Sarah Gfeller at the helm. A recent new building allows nature, architecture and food to merge, creating a calm setting where guests relax beside the water.
Head chef Thomas Messerli leads the kitchen team, cooking a modern cuisine that respects tradition. At lunch, the menu changes daily with market-fresh ingredients and home-made classics – from a pasta of the day to a fine cut of meat. In the evening, the focus shifts to a Tavolata menu: a multi-course set meal designed for sharing, with a fully vegetarian option available on request. A short à la carte selection complements the experience. The wine list balances familiar crus with unexpected discoveries.
Brücke’s careful sourcing and refined execution have earned it a Michelin recommendation for 2026. The guide highlights the restaurant’s thoughtful modern cuisine and the serene riverside atmosphere.
The restaurant also hosts bespoke banquets – weddings, birthdays, corporate gatherings – in rooms suited for board meetings or celebrations. Special wine dinners, like the annual Premiere evening with Italian producers, bring guests together for paired menus and rare vintages.
Whether for a seasonal midday meal or an evening Tavolata, Brücke offers a concrete, unhurried kind of hospitality – the kind that has kept this spot by the Aare in the family for over a century.
