The story
Schloss Bottmingen, a historic moated castle just outside Basel, is the setting for Brasserie du Château. The restaurant offers a dining experience that blends timeless classic cuisine with the atmosphere of a medieval landmark. It is a Michelin-recommended destination, recognised for its consistent quality and inviting character.
The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Guy Wallyn, a chef with 15 Gault Millau points and a member of Jeunes Restaurateurs (JRE). He also oversees the Gourmet Louis fine dining concept within the same castle. At Brasserie du Château, the focus is on accessible, well-executed classic cuisine — dishes rooted in tradition, prepared with care.
The dining room carries the character of the castle, with stone walls and an air of understated elegance. When the weather allows, meals are served in the castle courtyard, where the setting becomes even more memorable. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner, and also hosts a popular Sunday brunch buffet during the summer holidays, featuring warm and cold specialities, fresh pastries, and seasonal desserts.
Beyond daily service, Brasserie du Château is part of a lively events programme. The annual "Rock the Castle" kitchen party brings together several acclaimed chefs for a gourmet evening with live rock music. The "Soirée blanche" is a white-dress summer night with a four-course menu and DJ. These events underline the restaurant’s place as a social and culinary hub in the region.
With its castle setting, classic cuisine, and Michelin recommendation, Brasserie du Château offers a dining experience that feels both special and natural — fine cooking in a place that has stood for centuries.
