The story
Gourmet Louis occupies a dedicated space within the historic Schloss Bottmingen, a moated castle on the outskirts of Basel. The restaurant’s dining room and, in fine weather, the castle courtyard provide an atmosphere that blends centuries-old stone walls with contemporary elegance. Outdoor seating is available, and parking is provided on site.
Executive Chef Guy Wallyn, who holds 15 Gault Millau points and is a member of the Jeunes Restaurateurs (JRE) association, leads the kitchen at Gourmet Louis. His cooking is rooted in Classic French tradition, with a focus on precision and seasonality. The menu changes regularly, drawing on the best produce from the region and beyond. The restaurant is open Wednesday through Saturday evenings, offering an intimate setting for a refined dinner.
Gourmet Louis has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026, placing it among Basel’s noteworthy dining destinations. The award reflects the kitchen’s consistent quality and the serene, castle-ensconced experience that sets the restaurant apart.
