The story
Opened in 2021, Yam is the project of the Klanklong brothers, who bring their Thai heritage to the French border town of Saint-Louis, just minutes from Basel. The name “Yam” refers to a spicy, fresh Thai salad – a symbol of the convivial mixing of flavours that defines the place. Chef Worawit Klanklong, who learned to cook in his family kitchen, leads a kitchen that fuses Thai traditions with French techniques.
Yam is designed as a living space, not just a restaurant. Inside, a bar lounge invites aperitifs and cocktails, while a large outdoor terrace opens in fine weather for al fresco dining. Regular live music evenings add to the warm, elegant vibe. Whether for a business lunch, an evening with friends, or a family gathering, the space adapts to the moment.
The cuisine is described as parfumée et colorée – fragrant and colourful – built on carefully sourced, seasonal produce. Signature dishes include a revisited Tom Yam Kung and Mango Sticky Rice, both reimagined through a French-Thai fusion lens. The kitchen’s commitment to quality ingredients and authentic flavours has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction, a nod to its consistent execution and creative spirit.
Yam’s Franco-Thai fusion is a genuine meeting of two culinary worlds, served in a setting that feels both refined and relaxed – exactly what a neighbourhood restaurant with international ambition should be.
