The story
In the lower old town of Burgdorf, at Metzgergasse 12, the restaurant «Zur Gedult» occupies one of the town’s oldest inns—a building dating from 1716 that has been a guesthouse since 1896. The atmosphere is that of a moody bistro: intimate, with space for just 20 guests inside, and a terrace that opens during warm months for al fresco dining.
The kitchen here is a showcase of Modern Cuisine, driven by seasonality and precision. Chef Lukas Kiener leads the team, and the restaurant’s recognition speaks to the quality of the work: a Michelin star, 17 Gault&Millau points, and a place among the Grandes Tables de Suisse. The Gourmet Menu is the heart of the experience, complemented by a carefully selected wine list that highlights producers and suppliers the team trusts.
The restaurant’s own words describe it simply: a place where creative cooking and fine wines come together. The team, led by Kiener, works with a philosophy of passion and craft. The Michelin star, awarded since 2019, is a natural extension of that commitment—not a goal, but a reflection of the daily pursuit of high-quality cooking in a setting that feels both historic and welcoming.
