The story

Casa Alva – Modern Cuisine in a 600-Year-Old Parsonage in Chur, Switzerland

From the Coast to the Mountains

In the quiet mountain village of Trin, just 20 minutes from Chur, the 600-year-old Casa Alva parsonage has been transformed into a restaurant and hotel that blends two distinct worlds. Owners Saskia and Reto Gadola draw on their heritage from both the coast and the Graubünden mountains, turning high-quality regional products into refined modern cuisine. The result is a kitchen that feels both grounded and surprising—seasonal, fresh, and light on the plate.

The restaurant’s setting is as memorable as the food. Surrounded by the lush meadows, forests, and peaks of the Weisse Arena Flims, Laax, and Falera, Casa Alva offers a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The interior, true to the “coast and mountains” theme, is furnished with larch wood and a keen eye for detail. It is a place where the peace of an idyllic Alpine village meets the creativity of a kitchen that has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction.

A Seasonal, Personal Approach

The menu at Casa Alva changes with the seasons, reflecting what is available from the surrounding land. In spring, for example, wild garlic from the region is picked and processed into dishes that are described as “fresh and light.” The Gadolas invite guests to experience this symbiosis of land and sea traditions on the plate, served in their heimelig (homely) dining room.

The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday, with dinner service starting at 6 PM. A gourmet breakfast is also served on opening days. The team—led by Saskia and Reto—takes a personal approach, even closing for a few weeks each summer and winter to spend time with their family. It is a small, independent operation that values genuine hospitality over volume.

A Recognized Destination

Casa Alva’s commitment to quality has not gone unnoticed. It is listed in the Gourmet Guide Surselva and, most notably, has been awarded a Michelin Recommended status for 2026. This recognition speaks to the consistency and care behind the kitchen’s modern cuisine, making it a worthy stop for anyone exploring the culinary landscape of the Swiss Alps.
