The story
Just a short drive from the shores of Lake Biel and Lake Neuchâtel, in the village of Gals, Restaurant Kreuz offers a quiet retreat from city life. The dining room and shaded terrace look out over the Seeland countryside, a region known for its asparagus and market gardens. The atmosphere is warm and refined, with an emphasis on genuine hospitality.
Christine and Michel Simitsch-Monney have been at the helm of Kreuz since 1998. They greet guests personally, whether for a weekday lunch or a celebratory banquet. The restaurant is a member of the Swiss Guild of Restaurateurs and Cooks, and its consistent quality has earned a Michelin Recommended award, recognising the kitchen’s commitment to honest, flavourful cooking.
The cuisine at Kreuz is rooted in the traditions of the region – country cooking that changes with the seasons. The daily menu (served Wednesday to Friday at lunch) includes a soup, salad, and a plat du jour, offered at a reasonable price in the café or the main dining room. For those wanting more choice, the seasonal carte features a wide variety of dishes built around local produce, such as the celebrated asparagus from Seeland and Thielle-Wavre.
Kreuz is also a popular spot for private events, with dedicated banquet menus for lunch and dinner. The shaded terrace is a highlight in warmer months, ideal for a leisurely meal. The restaurant is open Wednesday to Sunday, with Sunday evening available by reservation.
