The story
Perched above Lake Geneva in Cologny, the Auberge du Lion d'Or has been a landmark of refined dining since 1951. Today, Chef Léo Besnard leads the restaurant, bringing a spirit of research and innovation to its kitchens. The dining room, with its large windows opening onto the lake, offers an elegant and delicate atmosphere. A superb terrace, one of the most beautiful in Geneva, lets guests contemplate the Genevan countryside while enjoying a meal.
Chef Besnard’s approach to Classic French cuisine prioritises local ingredients and short supply chains. Vegetables are sourced from nearby market gardeners or, during the summer season, from the restaurant's own small organic garden on the hill just below the building. The team selects produce, seafood, and meats with an eye for freshness and quality, always choosing eco-responsible, labelled suppliers. The result is a high-level gastronomic experience rooted in the seasons.
The Auberge has long been recognised as a destination for serious gastronomy. In 1972, it received the “clé d’or” from Gault & Millau for the highest score among visited restaurants in Geneva and Lausanne, and soon earned two stars from the Guide Michelin. Today, it continues to hold a place among the finest tables in the region, with the Michelin guide recommending it for its impeccable service and consistently high-calibre cuisine.
