The story
Twenty minutes from the centre of Geneva, Café de Peney sits in the calm of the countryside, offering a welcome escape from the city. The restaurant describes itself as a "bistrot gourmand" – a place where generous, well-crafted French cuisine is served in a relaxed setting.
The dining room and terrace are set in a traditional building, with a garden for outdoor seating in warmer months. Open daily from 11:00 to 23:00 (orders taken 12:00-13:45 and 19:00-21:15), it is a spot for both lunch and dinner.
The kitchen works with seasonal produce. A market menu is served Monday to Friday, midi and soir. For those seeking a fuller experience, proposition menus of three to five services range from CHF 55 to CHF 89. A special truffle menu (Truffes Melanosporum) features dishes such as scallops with sweet potato purée, a consommé with fresh truffle, and veal cheek confit with truffle. The wine list (La cave) complements the food.
The restaurant's commitment to honest, flavour-driven cooking has earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand – an award recognising good quality at a reasonable price. It is a well-deserved nod for a kitchen that focuses on French cuisine without pretension.
Café de Peney also caters for private events – banquets, family meals, business dinners, and weddings – with custom menus. The atmosphere is "tranquille et reposant", making it an ideal setting for a leisurely meal. Takeaway and Wi-Fi are available.
