The story
At Café des Banques, the entire kitchen is open to the dining room. From your table, you watch the brigade assemble plates, then see them parade through the room. This transparency is central to the experience – it sharpens the appetite and wakes the senses. The space is bathed in natural light, anchored by a large granite communal table that physically connects the kitchen and the dining area. Plates are finished directly in front of guests, putting them front row at the culinary stage.
Chef Yoann Caloué leads the team. He invites guests to his table as he would welcome friends at home. The atmosphere is deliberately relaxed: the crackle of binchotan charcoal, bubbling pots, bottles being uncorked with enthusiasm, and plates moving swiftly between the hands of the floor staff. This ballet, choreographed by the chef, turns a meal into a fleeting but memorable performance. The cuisine is poetic, surprising, and firmly rooted in modern cuisine.
The restaurant’s approach has earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction, a recognition that fits naturally with the careful, ingredient-driven cooking on display. The modern cuisine here tells stories, but never loses sight of pure pleasure.
Downstairs, the open kitchen and counter dining create an energetic, communal vibe. Upstairs, a private salon with a sofa and library offers a cosy, intimate setting for private or professional events. In good weather, the naturally shaded terrace invites you to linger outdoors.
The wine list is notably interesting, and live music occasionally adds to the convivial atmosphere. Whether you come for a business lunch, a quiet dinner, or a celebration, Café des Banques adapts without losing its character.
Yoann Caloué’s cooking is gastronomic but never stiff. It’s a modern cuisine that respects tradition while embracing spontaneity and transparency. The result is a place that feels both refined and welcoming – a true reflection of its chef’s personality.
