The story
In 2020, La Micheline found its home in the newly built Gare des Eaux-Vives, a transportation hub that belies the calm, intentional dining experience waiting above. The restaurant describes itself as a place of passion, creation, and sharing – a pause in a fast-moving neighbourhood. From the start, the team has focused on thoughtful dialogue: reflecting on each plate, tasting it with the wine that makes the most sense, and sharing the stories behind every producer, fisherman, or winemaker.
Chef Andrés Arocena runs the kitchen with a sense of freedom, unconstrained by rigid rules. He plays with every product, texture, and colour, exploring the flavours nature offers. The result is a cuisine that feels both playful and precise – rooted in French and Mediterranean traditions, yet very much his own. The Michelin guide recognised this approach with a one-star rating, citing high quality cooking.
The best way to discover La Micheline is through one of the surprise tasting menus: a five-course option at 135 CHF or a six-course at 155 CHF, each available with a dedicated wine pairing (70 and 80 CHF respectively) or a non-alcoholic pairing. For lunch, a weekly menu at 65 CHF changes every two weeks, offering a starter, main, and dessert. The à la carte is available both midday and evening, giving guests the freedom to choose their own path through the chef’s creations.
At the centre of the restaurant stands a glass-walled wine cellar holding nearly 1,000 references. Swiss producers sit alongside the great wines of Spain and other world-class regions. The sommeliers guide guests through the list, matching each bottle to the nuances of the food.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner. In summer, a large, planted terrace offers about 50 seats – quiet and comfortable. Inside, the atmosphere is calm and intimate, welcoming children (with advance notice) and even well-behaved dogs. The team encourages a smart, relaxed dress code, but there is no strict requirement. La Micheline’s approach is warm and unpretentious, letting the food and hospitality speak for themselves.
With its Michelin star and a clear sense of purpose, La Micheline has become a destination for those seeking refined French and Mediterranean flavours in Geneva.
