The story
On the ground floor of Lugano’s Palazzo dei Congressi, Ciani Lugano occupies a setting that is hard to beat. A large terrace, immersed in the green of the park and set against the lake, gives the restaurant a light, airy feel. The interior is divided into distinct areas, each suited to a different moment: an aperitif at the lounge bar, a business lunch, a leisurely dinner, or an afternoon pause with a glass of wine.
The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Nicola Costantini, whose approach combines the robust traditions of Ticino with a refined, contemporary Mediterranean sensibility. He sources quality local products, and the menu reflects a respect for ingredients and a willingness to innovate. A recipe for Mazzola in brodetto with black chickpeas and crispy bread, for example, pairs a classic grandmother-style fish stew with modern, healthy touches. Other dishes include a seared Black cod with Pak-choi and miso, and a classic beef tartare.
The wine program is a serious affair. Ciani Lugano’s own Vinoteca showcases a carefully curated selection, from the luxury of Dom Pérignon and the rare elegance of a Pétrus Bordeaux to a deep list of Italian and Swiss labels. This commitment to quality across both food and drink has earned the restaurant a Michelin recommendation, a recognition that feels natural rather than forced in a place where the details are clearly considered.
Beyond the main restaurant, Ciani Lugano hosts special events, including dinner shows and collaborations with internationally renowned chefs, making it a dynamic hub for Lugano’s dining scene. It is a place where the Mediterranean cuisine, the lake views, and the well-chosen wine list come together in a relaxed but polished way.
