The story
At Brasserie Notre-Dame, the philosophy is straightforward: seasonal products, house-made dishes, and a particular focus on cooking over embers—what they call spécialités aux braises. Located on Grand-Rue in the heart of Payerne, the restaurant describes itself as a convivial brasserie, a place to settle in and enjoy a relaxed meal.
This approach to straightforward, high-quality cooking has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026. The menu is described as clear and readable, changing with the seasons, and built around the technique of braising. A sample of the daily menu shows a clear structure: a simple green salad or a chilled pea and mint soup to start, followed by main courses like a beef and lamb cevapcici prepared tagliata style with rocket and parmesan, or a saffron risotto with prawns.
The dessert menu, available separately, continues the theme of clean, bold flavours. A pavlova with passion fruit and vanilla, a frozen parfait with kiwi, yuzu, and lemon mascarpone, and a baby pineapple cooked on the braise with pomegranate, coquitos, and coconut sorbet are all listed. The restaurant’s wine list and full à la carte offering are available on their website.
The atmosphere is described as warm and welcoming, with a space that is “distinctive, well-preserved and comfortable.” The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, with a break in the afternoon. It is closed on Sunday and Monday. Reservations are recommended.
