The story
In the quiet village of Sauges, above Lake Neuchâtel, La Maison du Village offers a style of dining that is both unpretentious and deeply intentional. The philosophy is clear: a short, ever-changing menu, relaxed service, and a constant dialogue with nature and the finest local producers. The goal is simple – to let guests enjoy a straightforward, flavourful moment in a comfortable setting.
Since 2012, chef Marc Strebel has been shaping the kitchen here. Trained at the Palace de Montreux and later in various establishments across the region, he brings an innovative, sometimes playful approach. His cooking is described as fresh, spontaneous, and creative – always respectful of the product and the landscape it comes from. The menu evolves with the seasons, driven by encounters with exceptional artisans who share the same vision.
In the dining room, Caroline – a graduate of the École Hôtelière de Genève – complements the experience with a passion for discovery. She introduces guests to her latest finds, often natural wines, and fosters a convivial atmosphere. The entire team works in close harmony, sharing a genuine love for good humour and open exchange with diners. Whether in the kitchen or at the table, the common aim is to please.
This commitment to honest, ingredient-focused cuisine earned La Maison du Village a Michelin Recommended distinction – recognition of its ability to deliver a memorable meal without any unnecessary fanfare. It’s a place where the focus remains firmly on the plate and the people who make it happen.
