The story
Wirtschaft zur Rosenburg occupies a medieval tower in the heart of Stans. Known locally as the “Höfli,” the building dates back to the 14th century and has been carefully restored. Today, it houses a restaurant that feels both grand and welcoming. The Turmstube, with its vaulted ceiling, is the heart of the house, while the Gaststube in the wine cellar offers a more relaxed atmosphere. Upstairs, the Waser-Stube and Keyser-Stube host smaller gatherings, and the Prunkzimmer even contains a hidden chapel. In summer, the Höfli-Garten opens – a quiet courtyard with views of the Stanserhorn and Pilatus peaks.
The kitchen is built on fresh, seasonal, and regional ingredients. The restaurant’s partner list reads like a map of local producers: Hof Murmatt, Metzgerei Stutzer & Flüeler, Christen Beck, Alpkäse from the Gerschnialp, and many more. This commitment to Swiss country cooking is reflected in the weekly menu, which changes regularly. A recent example included a herb risotto with grilled vegetables, a pork steak with caponata vegetables, and oven-baked cod with lemon risotto. The cooking is straightforward and honest – exactly what the restaurant’s motto promises: “Gekocht mit Leidenschaft. Einfach köstlich.”
Whether you are stopping by for a weekday lunch, a romantic dinner, or a family celebration, the Rosenburg offers a room to match. The Nidwaldner-Stube is ideal for an intimate meal, while the larger Turmstube can host up to 54 guests. The garden is a favourite for light summer dishes, homemade desserts, and ice cream specialities. The restaurant also caters for private events, from birthdays to civil weddings. Michelin has recognised the consistency and quality of this Swiss country cooking, awarding it a Recommended status – a fitting honour for a kitchen that lets the ingredients speak for themselves.
