The story
In the small town of Thal, overlooking the vineyards and the deep blue of Lake Constance, Landhaus brings together centuries of history with a contemporary culinary spirit. The building itself dates back to the late 16th century, and its story is woven into the fabric of the region. Today, this history is matched by a kitchen that has earned a Michelin recommendation, placing the restaurant on the map for discerning diners.
The restaurant is run by a young family, Lino and Ariane Cresta, who bring experience from renowned houses. Lino Cresta leads the kitchen with a philosophy rooted in freshness, craftsmanship, and quality. The cuisine is described as a homage to these principles, blending classical techniques with modern accents. The focus is on seasonality and precise execution, with every dish reflecting the care that goes into selecting ingredients.
The restaurant offers several distinct spaces, each with its own character. The main dining room accommodates up to 30 guests, while the more intimate Stübli seats 16. A grand hall provides space for 70, and with the first warm sun, the terrace and garden open up with around 40 seats. From these outdoor spots, the view of the lake and the surrounding vineyards is a constant companion.
Beyond the main dining areas, Landhaus features a historic wine cellar. This vaulted space has stored wine since the 16th century, and today it holds a carefully curated selection from small regional growers to world-renowned wineries. There is also a small, stylish cigar lounge, a retreat for up to six guests, lit by warm, indirect light.
Landhaus is not just a restaurant; it is a versatile venue. The converted barn, now a dining hall, and the meticulously restored guest room from 1582 provide a fitting backdrop for celebrations, from weddings to family dinners. For business, the hall is equipped with modern technology and can host up to 90 people. The team also offers a unique service: arranging a classic car, from a Rolls-Royce to a Bentley, for a special arrival.
The kitchen offers a range of menus, including a lunch menu, evening menus, and a vegetarian option, all designed to showcase the best of the season. The Michelin recommendation recognizes the consistency and quality of this approach, where tradition meets fresh thinking and every meal is an invitation to enjoy a genuine moment.
