The story
Hotel & Restaurant Rössli in Wädenswil anchors a quiet corner where traditional Swiss cuisine thrives beside the south shore of Lake Lucerne. The structure houses the oldest commercial building in its village center, originally constructed in 1614. After surviving a fire set by passing French troops in 1798, the property was rebuilt and once operated a ground-floor butcher shop and bakery. That historic footprint now supports a dining room designed for unhurried conversation.
The fourth generation took control in May 2014 when sisters Angela and Shila Christen stepped into the role of owners. Their father Hans remains a constant presence, managing everything from guest greetings to wine selections and kitchen support. Long-time staff member Toni Mechado brings technical precision to the pass, earning fourteen points in the 2026 Gault Millau guide. Fresh river fish arrives daily from eighty-four-year-old fisherman Alois Blättler, who works the waters nearby.
The kitchen highlights delicate whitefish through a signature Egli recipe seasoned with chili, lemon juice, and coarse sea salt. Atlantic bluefin tuna arrives as a crisp carpaccio dressed with olive oil, soy, cucumber, tomato, shallots, and avocado. Meat orders feature classic Cordon bleu Maison alongside Irish Foyle beef filet prepared with Café de Paris butter. Sommelier Christen pairs these plates with accessible Bordeaux second wines like the 2016 Château Talbot Connétable.
Warm wooden tones and vintage furnishings create a grounded atmosphere that matches the straightforward Swiss cooking style served inside. Guests can extend their stay onto a shaded terrace equipped with canvas umbrellas and ceiling fans during warmer months. The layout encourages relaxed pacing between courses. This deliberate rhythm allows the culinary tradition to take center stage without distraction.
