The story
In the small village of Menzingen, just outside Zug, Gasthaus Löwen brings refined modern cuisine to a carefully preserved historic setting. Since 2019, chef Franco Körperich and his wife Tanja have been welcoming guests into their denkmalgeschützte Gaststube – a protected, traditional inn that they run with warmth and precision.
Franco Körperich leads the kitchen, crafting seasonal menus that surprise and delight. Guests choose the number of courses – from a business lunch of three or four courses to an evening gourmet menu of up to eight – and let the kitchen take over. The cuisine is rooted in classic techniques but moves freely into contemporary territory, driven by what the season offers. Tanja Körperich and her team attend to the dining room, ensuring the service is personal and unhurried.
The quality of this cooking has earned the restaurant a Michelin star, an award that recognises high-quality cooking executed with consistency and skill. It has also been awarded 16 Gault-Millau points and, in 2023, became a member of the Jeunes Restaurateurs association – a nod to the talent and ambition behind the stove.
When weather permits, the hidden Sommergarten opens, offering a secluded outdoor escape in the middle of the village. On cooler days, the cosy, wood-panelled dining room provides the same calm atmosphere. Whether you come for a focused lunch or an extended tasting menu, the rhythm of the meal is unhurried, the flavours precise.
Gasthaus Löwen is a place where a centuries-old building meets sharp, contemporary cooking – and where the hospitality feels genuinely personal.
