The story
Afghan Anar describes itself simply as “Authentic Afghan Soul and Streetfood.” With two locations in Zurich – one at Limmatplatz and another in Hottingen – it brings the bold, aromatic flavours of Afghan cuisine to the city. The menu focuses on soulful, everyday dishes and street-food classics, served in a casual, welcoming setting.
In 2026, Afghan Anar earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a nod to its honest cooking and consistent quality. The guide’s recognition highlights the restaurant’s ability to deliver genuine Afghan flavours without pretension – a rare find in Zurich’s dining scene.
The kitchen turns out handmade dumplings known as Mantu, a staple featured at past street food festivals where the restaurant set up shop for weeks at a time. Beyond Mantu, the offering includes a range of Afghan soul-food dishes, available for takeaway, dine-in, or catering. Outdoor seating is available when weather permits, and the restaurant also offers catering for events and group bookings.
Afghan Anar operates two branches in Zurich: one at Fierzgasse 22 near Limmatplatz, and another in the Hottingen quarter. Both serve the same menu of Afghan street food and soul food, with opening hours that cover lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday.
