The story
A few steps from Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse, La Bottega di Mario brings the relaxed, sun-washed spirit of Ticino to the city. The restaurant is a homage to Mario Rapelli’s original salumeria, which opened ninety years ago in the village of Stabio. Today, the Bottega is run by the Segmüller Collection in partnership with Rapelli, and its soul is shaped by three “Mastri Salumieri” – Alessio, Salvatore, and Filippo – who welcome guests with genuine warmth.
The atmosphere is deliberately casual: a place to share, to linger, and to enjoy the best of the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. The menu is built around Ticino classics, prepared with care and the finest Rapelli salumi. Standouts include the Tagliolini al Parmigiano – freshly made pasta tossed tableside in a giant Parmesan wheel – and the Tagliata di manzo, an entrecôte flambéed at your table and served with rocket, cherry tomatoes, and Grana Padano shavings. The homemade ravioli, whether filled with veal or cheese, are a guest favourite. For those who love slow-cooked comfort, the Brasato di Manzo, braised for eighteen hours, delivers deep, rich flavour.
This dedication to honest, high-quality Italian cooking earned La Bottega di Mario a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 – a recognition that rewards good food at a reasonable price. It’s a fitting nod to a restaurant that treats Ticino’s culinary traditions with respect, from its antipasti platters to its Zabaione dessert.
Whether you stop by for a lunchtime plate of Vitello Tonnato or an evening of shared plates and Ticino wines, La Bottega di Mario offers a genuine taste of the south, right in central Zurich.
