The story
Since 1991, White Elephant has been a destination for authentic Thai cuisine in Zürich. Located in the Zürich Marriott Hotel, a ten-minute walk from the main train station, the restaurant draws a following among connoisseurs who consider it one of the city’s finest Thai restaurants. Its consistent quality and genuine approach have earned it a place on the Michelin guide, a recognition of the kitchen’s dedication to traditional flavours.
The restaurant’s claim to authenticity is backed by its team. Every member of the kitchen and service staff comes from Thailand, bringing a direct lineage of culinary tradition. The kitchen, led by Thai chefs, prepares dishes using fresh, high-quality ingredients and traditional methods. The service team is noted for its warm, open-hearted hospitality, creating an atmosphere that feels genuinely Thai without any artifice.
The menu is built around Thai classics. Pad Thai, the national dish, is a signature offering. It is prepared with tofu and vegetables, chicken, pork, beef filet, or seafood such as Black Tiger prawns and lobster, and is served in an omelette – a street-food style that the restaurant has adopted as its own. Green curry, green papaya salad, and Gang Liang soup are also featured.
Each October, the restaurant hosts its Elephantastic Seafood Journey, a two-week event featuring an extensive selection of Thai seafood prepared in various ways – steamed, fried, or grilled – with the kitchen offering recommendations for each choice.
For lunch, White Elephant offers a daily changing "Lazy Susan" set menu with three different curries (fish, meat, vegetable), soup, and rice, as well as a Thai Lunch Box for takeaway.
