The story
NIRI takes its name from the Japanese concept of ichigo ichie – treasure every meeting, for it will never recur. This philosophy shapes every visit to this homegrown Abu Dhabi restaurant, where the design, food and service are kept deliberately simple. Located on Mamsha Al Saadiyat, NIRI describes itself as a neighbourhood yakitori restaurant, sushi counter and highball bar, with space for all – family, friends, colleagues, partners.
The kitchen moves around Japanese cuisine and spirit, but without the formality often associated with fine dining. Instead, NIRI aspires to remove boundaries, titles and formality, creating an inclusive experience. Guests can choose between counter seating – ideal for watching the chefs at work on the yakitori grill or sushi counter – or outdoor seating that takes in the Saadiyat atmosphere. A notable sake list and highball bar complete the beverage offering, while the restaurant is also wheelchair accessible and welcomes vegans.
NIRI’s distinctive approach to Japanese contemporary dining earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction in the 2026 guide – a nod to its honest cooking and relaxed hospitality. Whether you come for grilled skewers, fresh sushi, or simply a highball with friends, the spirit of ichigo ichie makes each visit feel like the first.
