The story

Jun's Downtown Dubai | Chef Kelvin Cheung's Michelin-Recommended Third-Culture Cuisine

Chef-Driven Third-Culture Cuisine

Jun’s, located on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai, is the home of chef Kelvin Cheung’s bold, boundary-breaking cooking. Recognized by the Michelin Guide, MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants, and Gault & Millau (awarded 2 Toques in 2026), Jun’s redefines modern fine dining with playfulness and precision. The restaurant describes its style as “fun, inventive cooking without borders”—a third-culture cuisine that blends global influences with refined technique.

Chef Kelvin Cheung

Born in Canada, raised in Chicago, and now based in Dubai, Kelvin Cheung is a Chinese-Canadian third-generation chef. His culinary style draws from his Chinese heritage, North American upbringing, and classical French training. At Jun’s, which he opened in 2021 as Chef & Partner with Three Layer Hospitality, Cheung crafts dishes rooted in personal stories and travels. The result is a menu that moves seamlessly from Cantonese-inspired dim sum to American comfort food with Asian accents.

“Third culture cooking” is the guiding philosophy here—Cantonese, American, and Asian cuisines interweave without hierarchy. That means you might find Wagyu Beef Potstickers next to a Jalapeño Onion Wagyu Smashburger, or a Lobster Pani Puri alongside a Portuguese Baked Lobster Rice.

The Space & Experience

Set on the city’s iconic boulevard with sweeping views of the Burj Khalifa, Jun’s is a restaurant, cocktail bar, and terrace wrapped in lush emerald and brass tones. The atmosphere is elevated yet welcoming—fine dining without pretense. With complimentary valet parking and daily service from lunch through late night, it caters to both business lunches and celebratory dinners.

The Tasting Menu

The heart of Jun’s is its 13-course Chef’s Tasting Menu (AED 560), a story-forward journey through Cheung’s most beloved dishes. Highlights include Pani Puri with butter-poached lobster, First Trip to China (a trio of flatbread, sour cabbage snapper, and otoro leaf wrap), and a playful dessert inspired by Garrett Popcorn’s Chicago Mix. A vegetarian version is also available, along with wine and zero-proof pairings.

For a shorter experience, the recently introduced “Short Story” seven-course tasting menu offers the same creativity and storytelling in fewer bites—designed to be more accessible without sacrificing imagination.

Recognition & Philosophy

Jun’s has earned consistent accolades: a Michelin Recommended distinction (2023–2026), a place on the MENA’s 50 Best list (2023–2026), and a climb to 2 Toques in the 2026 Gault & Millau guide. But the restaurant’s true ambition is simpler: to connect people through flavor. Every dish carries a memory—whether it’s a nod to Cheung’s childhood, a trip to China, or a beloved family recipe. It’s fine dining that feels personal, inventive, and genuinely fun.
