The story
Café Bohème brings Modern French cooking to Windmill Brae, just steps from Aberdeen’s historic harbour. The restaurant holds a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026, a nod to the precision and ambition found on every plate.
The set menu—two courses for £38, three for £50—changes with the seasons and showcases technique without pretence. Starters range from a deeply savoury French onion broth with ox cheek and Comté rarebit to a rabbit and black truffle roulade with turnip purée and hispi cabbage. A harissa roast courgette starter, with whipped feta and apricot couscous, caters to vegetarian palates.
Main courses lean into bold, classical combinations. Lamb rump arrives with a shepherd’s pie of lamb shank and smoked mash, while pancetta-cured monkfish is paired with prawn boudin and a shellfish and sweet corn sauce. For those who prefer land over sea, the beef fillet—with an ox cheek croquette and sherry-glazed shallot—carries a £20 supplement. A beetroot galette with mushroom and cashew parfait and a pan-fried gnocchi with spring vegetables keep the vegetarian options equally considered.
Desserts include a salted chocolate crumble torte with coffee ice cream, a honeyberry crème brûlée with lavender shortbread, and a rhubarb and pistachio parfait that is both vegan and gluten-free. A Scottish cheese plate with grape chutney and homemade oatcakes rounds things off.
Café Bohème operates Tuesday through Saturday, with lunch service from Wednesday to Saturday and dinner nightly except Monday and Sunday. The atmosphere is relaxed but polished—a place where the food does the talking. Whether you are stopping in for a full tasting or a glass of wine from their curated list, the service is attentive without being intrusive. Private dining is also available for those seeking a more intimate gathering.
