The story
The Gallery Restaurant is a tribute to its surroundings. Located within The Cavendish Hotel in Baslow, the dining room takes its name from the paintings and drawings that adorn the walls — works from the Devonshire family collection that celebrate the views of the Chatsworth estate. The connection to the land runs deeper than the art: every dish on the menu reflects the Peak District’s best producers.
The kitchen, led by Executive Chef Adam Harper, focuses on sustainable food production and low food miles. The menu showcases trout from Ladybower Fisheries, cold-pressed rapeseed oil from Bakewell’s Brock & Moreton, and pork from family-run Moss Valley Farm. This commitment to local sourcing is the foundation of the restaurant’s Modern British cuisine — straightforward, season-driven, and rooted in the Derbyshire countryside.
The restaurant holds three AA Rosettes and has earned a Michelin recommendation, recognition that speaks to the quality of its cooking and the integrity of its ingredients. It’s a place where the landscape of the Peak District is not just a backdrop, but the very reason for what’s on the plate.
The Gallery’s interior is part of a wider refurbishment of The Cavendish Hotel, led by designer Nicola Harding. Art and artefacts from Chatsworth are paired with locally crafted fittings, creating a space that feels both refined and welcoming. The wine list is equally thoughtful, with a strong selection by the glass, including English sparkling wines and a Chatsworth Muscat.
Whether it’s a Sunday lunch, afternoon tea, or a quiet dinner, The Gallery Restaurant offers a dining experience that feels deeply connected to its surroundings — honest, elegant, and distinctly of the Peak District.
