The story
Set within the grounds of the Lucknam Park estate, the Walled Garden Restaurant offers a relaxed, all-day dining experience that draws on the rhythms of the countryside. Here, Modern British cooking is shaped by the seasons, with Head Chef Alex Greene leading a kitchen that changes its menus as the year turns — from summer barbecues to warming winter roasts.
The setting lives up to its name. The restaurant possesses the romance and serenity of an English country garden, providing a laid-back atmosphere that suits every appetite. It is a natural complement to the Michelin-starred Restaurant Hywel Jones, also on the estate, but the Walled Garden makes its own mark with elevated classics and straightforward seasonal fare. A glass of English fizz is never far away.
Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant also offers a lounge menu in the afternoon. Dogs are welcome on the terrace and in the lounge area. As with any dining room that takes its craft seriously, the team asks guests to advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking. Table reservations are essential.
The restaurant’s recognition in the Michelin guide underscores the quality of its Modern British cuisine, but the feel here is unhurried and welcoming — the sort of place where the food reflects what’s good right now, and the garden walls keep the world at a comfortable distance.
