The story
EDŌ brings a relaxed yet refined dining experience to Belfast, where the best ingredients from across Europe take centre stage. Award-winning owners Jonny and Charlotte, who honed their craft working for chefs like Gordon Ramsay and Gary Rhodes, have created a space that feels both welcoming and quietly ambitious.
The kitchen is built around a Bertha oven – one of only a very small number in the country – which uses apple and pear wood to infuse dishes with a distinctive, smoky character. The cooking here is contemporary European, with a strong emphasis on sharing plates, though a traditional starter-and-main format remains for those who prefer it. Dishes such as Bertha-smoked hispi cabbage with hazelnut, or Bertha-cooked bream with Portavogie prawns and Ibérico butter, showcase the oven’s unique capabilities.
The menu reads like a tour of Europe’s best larders: Jamón Ibérico de Bellota from Spain, scallop ceviche with pickled kohlrabi, confit lamb breast with romesco and salsa verde, and a Paella packed with Portavogie langoustine, mussels and lobster bisque. Desserts stay true to the same spirit – a blood orange and bergamot flan, rhubarb custard mille-feuille, or a chocolate, coffee and hazelnut tart.
The wine list is equally thoughtful, with a strong focus on Spain and France, alongside interesting bottles from Italy, Germany and beyond. There is also a notable sake list for those looking to explore beyond the grape.
EDŌ has been recognised by the Michelin Guide with a Bib Gourmand, an award that celebrates good quality, good value cooking. It is a fitting nod to the kind of place Jonny and Charlotte have built – one where the food is confident, the atmosphere is cosy, and the hospitality feels genuinely warm. Whether you come as a couple, a family, or a larger group, this is a restaurant that makes you want to stay a while.
