The story
In 2011, Home started as a temporary pop-up in an off-the-beaten-track location in Belfast city centre. The three-month experiment was an instant hit with local foodies, and the restaurant extended its stay for nearly a year before finding a permanent home on Wellington Place, steps from City Hall. Today, it remains a favourite among diners who appreciate its straightforward, heartfelt approach to cooking.
Home’s philosophy is simple: fresh, local, seasonal ingredients cooked to make people happy. The kitchen works with small artisan producers from Northern Ireland, including Lisdergan Meats and fruit-and-vegetable grower Drew Frazer, to ensure everything delivered is at its peak. The menu changes regularly, reflecting what’s in season, and is frequently described as balanced. Alongside classics like a ribeye steak or a beef burger, you’ll find vibrant dishes built around grains, pulses, and locally produced rapeseed oil, with very little butter or cream. There are dedicated vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free menus, and a wide selection of fresh fish and shellfish from local ports.
Home has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand since 2014, an award given to restaurants that serve exceptionally good food at moderate prices. It’s a recognition that fits the restaurant’s ethos: generous, satisfying cooking that doesn’t break the bank. The prix fixe menu, available early evening on weekdays, offers two courses for £24.50 or three for £29.00, making it an accessible choice for anyone wanting quality modern Mediterranean cuisine in Belfast.
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with a diverse crowd of locals, tourists, and die-hard foodies. The space is air-conditioned, wheelchair accessible, and has outdoor seating for warmer days. Whether you’re stopping in for lunch, a leisurely dinner, or a gathering with a large group, the team delivers the kind of attentive, unhurried service that makes you want to come back. As one regular put it: “Staff always so attentive and friendly, even when at their busiest.”
