The story
Since 2007, The Westwood has been a fixture in Beverley, serving modern British dishes that let fresh, locally sourced ingredients take centre stage. Set in the wing of a Grade II listed Georgian courthouse, the restaurant’s contemporary interior sits comfortably alongside the building’s period charm. The result is a space that feels both elegant and welcoming – whether you’re dining on the spacious terrace or inside the main room.
The kitchen is led by owner and Chef Director Matthew Barker, with Head Chef Richard Jude at the stoves. Their approach is straightforward: seasonal menus built around high-quality produce from trusted local suppliers. Think freshly caught Bridlington white crab, lobster, and Himalayan salt-aged Yorkshire beef. The cooking is unfussy, with meats cooked a la plancha – a detail noted by the Michelin Guide, which awarded The Westwood a recommendation in 2026.
The menu changes with the seasons, but the philosophy stays the same: simple, satisfying food where the ingredients speak for themselves. There are dedicated vegan and vegetarian options, plus a thoughtfully chosen wine list and cocktails. Upstairs, The W Bar offers a more relaxed setting for drinks or lighter bites.
Beyond the main dining room, The Westwood caters to private parties and offers outdoor seating when the weather allows. Free parking is available on site. It’s a neighbourhood restaurant that has grown into one of East Yorkshire’s favourite places to eat – and the Michelin recognition confirms what regulars have known for years.
