The story
Shibden Mill Inn is a 17th-century country pub and inn set in the fold of the Shibden Valley, near Halifax and Bradford. Originally a corn and spinning mill, it was converted into a pub in 1890 and has remained a fixture of local hospitality ever since. The atmosphere is defined by open fires, low beamed ceilings, and a cosy bar area – an inviting backdrop for the Modern British cooking that has earned the inn a Michelin recommendation.
Chef Andy Clegg leads the kitchen, crafting seasonal dishes from locally sourced Yorkshire ingredients and produce from the inn’s own kitchen garden. The sample à la carte menu is served at lunch and dinner, while a dedicated taster menu – priced at £75 per person – offers a more immersive experience. Diners can also choose from a children’s menu, sandwiches for lighter meals, and a Sunday menu with two or three courses. A separate vegan menu is available daily.
The dining spaces include the bar area, the Mill Room, and a patio garden for summer. For those staying overnight, eleven individually styled bedrooms blend 17th-century character with modern comforts. The inn is also a practical base for exploring the surrounding valley and local attractions, with Halifax a ten-minute drive away and Leeds within half an hour.
